How to Get a Soft Makeup Finish
I got interested in makeup when I turned 15, I would stay up all night and watch makeup tutorials on YouTube. Over the years I have gotten more confident in my makeup abilities and I want to share with you guys how I achieve my soft glam makeup look. A flawless makeup look starts with clean skin.
It’s important to start with a fresh clean face. If I know I am going to wear makeup for hours I like to exfoliate before applying the makeup. Starting with a face without oil, it will make your makeup blend better. After I wash my face really well, I use a primer. Depending on whether you prefer a matte or glossy finish, will determine what primer you use.
Now for the fun part eyebrows. I do my eyebrows before foundation because doing them after foundation will cause you to do more work. And doing your brows first guarantees they will be clean and concealed. So there are a couple of things you can use for your eyebrows. There are eyebrow pencils, eyebrow gel, eyebrow dip, and eyebrow powder. Since my eyebrows are thick I like to use a pencil. I start by lining the bottom of my brows then going in an upwards motion mimicking the way my natural hair grows. After filling in both of your brows it won’t look good, that’s where concealer comes into play. Use a small angled brush and a concealer that is one shade lighter than your skin. Line the bottom of your brow, then drag the concealer downwards. Then line the top of your brow with your foundation color, this method will give you a really natural look. Now grab a small fluffy brush to blend the concealer and foundation. Now repeat these steps for your other brow. Always remember brows are sisters, not twins. They don’t have to look identical so no worries.
Now for the color correcting. I have hyperpigmentation on my face, so some areas are darker than the rest of my face. I use a concealer to go over those areas so I won’t have to apply a lot of layers of foundation. After color correcting I finally begin to apply my foundation. I recommend applying your foundation with a brush for the most coverage. The key to a flawless makeup look is blending. Blend like your life depends on it. Blend until your arms are tired. I also like to use a smaller handheld mirror to see any mistakes up close. After foundation, it is time to highlight and contour. Everyone will have a different way they highlight and contouring because everyone has different face shapes. I start by taking my concealer and applying it under my eyes, forehead, and nose. The key to long-lasting concealer is to let it sit for a couple of seconds don’t immediately blend it out. I learned that trick from Jackie Aina. After letting it sit, blend the concealer with a small fluffy brush, it will give you the most coverage.
Now I am more of a bronze girl than I am a contour girl. I don’t use a liquid concealer to contour, instead, I set my face with powder first then I go in with a good bronzer. I am obsessed with looking bronzed and the warmth it brings to my face. You take a fluffy brush and go in an upwards motion on your cheekbones towards your hairline. You also want to apply the bronzer to the corners of your forehead and on the bottom of your face in the chin area. I don’t usually wear eyeshadow so I’ll take some of my bronzer on an eyeshadow brush and put some in the creases of my eyes. I almost forgot a really important step. I like to use a wet beauty blender and dip it into my banana setting powder then I tap it under my eyes and let the powder sit there for a few minutes. This technique is called baking.
After baking, I take a big fluffy brush, rub it into a powder that is close to my skin tone, and sweep all the powder away. If I want a really chiseled look I’ll take my beauty blender and line my cheeks to make them look more contoured. Then I sweep that away after a few seconds. After using all this powder your face may feel tight and uncomfortable, now is the best time to take some face spray like rosewater to moisten your face and help everything blend together. After this step, I like to touch up my brows again or fix any mistakes. And lastly, apply some highlight on the tip of my nose.
And there you have a tutorial on how to achieve a soft glam look. This look is perfect for a night out or anything that you want to just dress up for.
