Soft Glam Makeup

How to Get a Soft Makeup Finish

I got interested in makeup when I turned 15, I would stay up all night and watch makeup tutorials on YouTube. Over the years I have gotten more confident in my makeup abilities and I want to share with you guys how I achieve my soft glam makeup look. A flawless makeup look starts with clean skin.

It’s important to start with a fresh clean face. If I know I am going to wear makeup for hours I like to exfoliate before applying the makeup. Starting with a face without oil, it will make your makeup blend better. After I wash my face really well, I use a primer. Depending on whether you prefer a matte or glossy finish, will determine what primer you use.

Now for the fun part eyebrows. I do my eyebrows before foundation because doing them after foundation will cause you to do more work. And doing your brows first guarantees they will be clean and concealed. So there are a couple of things you can use for your eyebrows. There are eyebrow pencils, eyebrow gel, eyebrow dip, and eyebrow powder. Since my eyebrows are thick I like to use a pencil. I start by lining the bottom of my brows then going in an upwards motion mimicking the way my natural hair grows. After filling in both of your brows it won’t look good, that’s where concealer comes into play. Use a small angled brush and a concealer that is one shade lighter than your skin. Line the bottom of your brow, then drag the concealer downwards. Then line the top of your brow with your foundation color, this method will give you a really natural look. Now grab a small fluffy brush to blend the concealer and foundation. Now repeat these steps for your other brow. Always remember brows are sisters, not twins. They don’t have to look identical so no worries.

Now for the color correcting. I have hyperpigmentation on my face, so some areas are darker than the rest of my face. I use a concealer to go over those areas so I won’t have to apply a lot of layers of foundation. After color correcting I finally begin to apply my foundation. I recommend applying your foundation with a brush for the most coverage. The key to a flawless makeup look is blending. Blend like your life depends on it. Blend until your arms are tired. I also like to use a smaller handheld mirror to see any mistakes up close. After foundation, it is time to highlight and contour. Everyone will have a different way they highlight and contouring because everyone has different face shapes. I start by taking my concealer and applying it under my eyes, forehead, and nose. The key to long-lasting concealer is to let it sit for a couple of seconds don’t immediately blend it out. I learned that trick from Jackie Aina. After letting it sit, blend the concealer with a small fluffy brush, it will give you the most coverage.

Now I am more of a bronze girl than I am a contour girl. I don’t use a liquid concealer to contour, instead, I set my face with powder first then I go in with a good bronzer. I am obsessed with looking bronzed and the warmth it brings to my face. You take a fluffy brush and go in an upwards motion on your cheekbones towards your hairline. You also want to apply the bronzer to the corners of your forehead and on the bottom of your face in the chin area. I don’t usually wear eyeshadow so I’ll take some of my bronzer on an eyeshadow brush and put some in the creases of my eyes. I almost forgot a really important step. I like to use a wet beauty blender and dip it into my banana setting powder then I tap it under my eyes and let the powder sit there for a few minutes. This technique is called baking.

After baking, I take a big fluffy brush, rub it into a powder that is close to my skin tone, and sweep all the powder away. If I want a really chiseled look I’ll take my beauty blender and line my cheeks to make them look more contoured. Then I sweep that away after a few seconds. After using all this powder your face may feel tight and uncomfortable, now is the best time to take some face spray like rosewater to moisten your face and help everything blend together. After this step, I like to touch up my brows again or fix any mistakes. And lastly, apply some highlight on the tip of my nose.

And there you have a tutorial on how to achieve a soft glam look. This look is perfect for a night out or anything that you want to just dress up for.

The Evolution Madden Video Games

The history of madden video game started of with the EA’s football franchise. founded in 1986 by Trip Hawkins and EA employees based on the concept of John Madden Football. John Madden asked for several requirements like eleven on eleven play like regular NFL games.  Overtime they worked out a deal and started their creation for the Franchise.  The deal never went through so the game serios was put on pause. With a great idea but no results yet EA managed to assemble John Madden Football in 1988. As any new game it had its kinks and fixes that needed to be made. However, the game was brought to life. One of the struggles Ea had was trying to get an NFL license to so they could use real player names and not fictional. Other features on the game included like changing weather and player fatigue which fans took immediate notice of.

When madden was brought to Sega genesis the system was fast to play on but they wanted to give the customer a better football experience. EA eventually brought Madden to the Super Nintendo, but it had  little complexity Plus, the game released much later than the first Genesis game . This edition of Madden was the first time the action was seen from above a vertical oriented field. Football games before this were seen from the side. This new view gives the player a better view of the action on the field. Also, it allows EA to place more information for the player in the top third of the screen. Such as playbooks, without obscuring the squat, little players. Since the release, Madden games have always defaulted to this view, although customizable cameras were later added to the series.  Sega soon recognized madden success and created the Joe Montana football series with EA.  EA was not the first to license the NFL. SEGA banked the NFL first for the 1993 edition of Joe Montana. EA did not release an NFL-branded football until the following year in 1994. However, from that release on the NFL has been front and center in almost every single one of EA’s Madden games, starting off with Madden Football 64 on the Nintendo 64.

The 1994 version is notable for the inclusion of digitized speech. In response to the “Sports Talk” feature in Joe Montana, EA added it’s now famous “It’s in the game” catchphrase to the game as well as some color from Madden himself. Madden as a commentator would now become both a signature feature of the series and a constant that exists to this day. The 1995 version of Madden NFL not only retained the NFL license, but it also added the Players Association license so EA could use real names and likenesses. 1996 was an interesting year for Madden. As EA completely fumbled the ball on the PlayStation deal, ceding important ground to Sony’s own franchise: Game Day. The series is a forgotten memory to many gamers now, but the shake up rocked EA and backfired . Madden 96 was released on Genesis and SNES. Madden 96 features the addition of a player creator and historical teams.

In 1998, Madden really regained its footing. This was its second season on the PlayStation and EA’s developer Tiburon was showing remarkable proficiency with the platform. However, the series was still primarily using sprites something that put it out-of-tune with the changes of the generation. In IGN’s review of Madden for the PSone, stated: “…the game itself plays and looks similar to all the other Madden titles. Sprite-based graphics, same interface, John Madden it’s all there, but it’s still the same game. It’s hard to change something good, but perhaps an upgrade in graphics wouldn’t hurt the game at all. In fact, it would be a totally new game if EA took its Madden series to the next level, that being polygons.”

Madden NFL 99 re-established Madden as the top dog in football. Sprites were out, polys were now in. The N64 version of the game regained the NFL license that was painfully missing from the previous edition. The biggest new gameplay feature in this edition was the arrival of Franchise Mode, which allows gamers to oversee the development and ultimate fate of a single team franchise over the course of no fewer than 30 seasons. The next year’s game was built largely on the strengths of ’99 but is mostly memorable for being the very first Madden game to not have only John Madden on the cover. The next year, Madden would be gone, and cover athletes would dominate the boxes. Thus, the birth of the Madden curse. Finally, this brings us to the modern era for Madden. The release of Madden NFL 2001  on the PlayStation 2 launched to great fanfare — and solid sales. Game Day self-immolated with an anemic release by comparison. from here on out madden would evolve with eah game system and graphics over time to the game we know today.

So, you want to own a hermit crab: here’s what you need to know

First things first: you cannot just own one hermit crab. Despite their name, they are social creatures who need other hermit crabs to have a fulfilled, long life. So if you want one, you at least need two!

Hermit crabs are heavily mistreated pets who are frequently taken from their natural habitats on beach coasts and put into the hands of children who tend to neglect their needs and ultimately, kill them. Despite typically not lasting a year in captivity with most care, hermit crabs can live to be 30 years old.

To properly take care of hermit crabs and let them live a full life, there are many basic necessities that most aren’t aware of- lets get into them!

TANK SET UP:

At minimum, you need a 10 gallon tank for 2 crabs. If you decide you want more crabs, you need to increase the tank size by 5 gallons for every crab you add.

Hermit crabs are found in tropical beach environments, so this needs to be imitated in their tank. This will be done  by having half the tank filled with soil substrate and the other with sand. At least 6 inches is needed to allow them room to burrow, tunnel and molt.

LIGHTING AND HEAT:

Crabs are nocturnal but still need daytime heat to warm the ground that they burrow and sleep in. Their natural habitats are anywhere from 70 degrees to 90 degrees, but the heat lamp should never exceed 90 degrees Fahrenheit.

Due to being nocturnal, they do not need light during the night, but they must still receive heat. This can be done by providing a heating mat under the tank that will keep the soil warm.

They don’t necessarily need a hot and cool side like most tank animals do, but having it set this way can make it easier as a care taker and allow the crabs to move to whichever temperature feels better to them.

CLIMBING, BURROWING AND HANGING:

The soil and sand in their environment need to be minimum 6 inches deep. This allows them the appropriate space to dig and burrow. They need this soil to molt, as they will stay submerged for the 1-2 week molting process because molting makes them vulnerable.

They also require hanging and climbing space. Hermit crabs are natural climbers and love to be active. Be sure to have hammocks, artificial plants, rope and other features that can be used to climb. To ensure safety, make sure they have the ability to climb from one fixture to another as well down to the ground from any of these fixtures. This is another reason deep substrate is important, so if there is a fall, they won’t be harmed.

SHELLS, SHELLS, SHELLS

You must provide an adequate amount of crab shells for your crabs. They molt their shells to grow frequently, and without shells to grow into, they can die or they will fight and kill other crabs for the shells they want. You can find crab shells in the wild or in stores, but you must clean them. This can be done by adding the empty shells to water and boiling them to kill off any bacteria before adding them to the habitat. There must be a range of shell sizes available, from small to extra large.

FOOD AND WATER:

FOOD:

Hermit crabs are scavengers in the wild. They will eat pretty much anything that they come across that is vegetation. In captivity, however, they do need a good supply of healthy, fresh foods to make their lifespan as long as possible.  They can be fed a variety diet of different fruits and vegetables, as well as various grains, nuts and berries, and even supplements like crushed oyster shell, cow bone and even worm castings.

WATER:

Hermit crabs must have 24/7 access to fresh water and salt water. Due to their costal habitat, they require both forms. The fresh water dish and salt water dish should be large enough for the crabs to submerge in. This will allow them to clean themselves and keep their shells moist and healthy. You will need to buy fresh water and salt water conditioners to provide these.

Aside from drinking and bathing, hermit crabs also require rain in their natural habitats. To imitate this, you must mist their tank daily, around night time. This will moisten empty shells and create a humid habitat that their natural environment has.

BEHAVIOR AND HANDLING:

BEHAVIOR:

Hermit crabs, as mentioned, are very social creatures among other hermit crabs. Towards humans, however, they are very shy and view us as predators. It will take time, even years, to develop a trusting relationship with their handler. To develop this trust, you can start by feeding them and putting water in their bowls while they are out, to get them used to seeing your hands and learn that you are not a threat. As you do this, you can start trying to hand the crabs food- such as coconut shavings or slices of produce, and see if they will take it.

The behavior they have among each other is interesting to watch. They communicate by barely-audible clicks and by moving their antennas in specific arrangements.

Although they are most often nocturnal, there are some crabs who like to come out during the day and snack and then return underground. Crabs can vary in habits just as humans do- so don’t be surprised to see your crabs act differently than others or go against the ‘norms’ of crab behavior.

HANDLING:

Once you have gained trust and are able to handle your hermit crabs, it is important to remember: they are crabs. They have claws and pincers that can feel like nothing or can break the skin, depending on the size of your crab and how comfortable they are with you.

To begin handling your crabs, you should start by wearing a sock or glove on your hand. If you feel a pinch it is really important not to instinctively drop the crab or move your hand erratically, which this is why it is also important to hold your crab close to a surface in the event that they do tumble or you drop it.

Beginner Actor’s Guide: The Basics

Are you an aspiring actor? Do you have a love for different characters and people? But you have never been told where to start? I am here to help. As once a child actress and acting coach for people all around the world, I have learned the ins and outs of the industry and know what is needed to put your best foot forward into this crazy industry.

Acting Lessons

Acting, like any other craft, you must dedicate a part of yourself to your training. Just like you want to be in a movie, athletes want to be in the NFL. It takes dedication and time. First you must know it doesn’t happen over night or in a few months. There are many acting coaches in Texas and even over zoom. They can be pretty pricey, so you have to try to find something in your pricing range that is beneficial to you. You’re training also must be for film, as much as your local theatre helps you learn, it isn’t the same as on camera acting. You must learns tips and techniques for how to act on camera.

Headshots

Having a professional headshot can make all the difference in your submissions to auditions and for open calls at agencies.  They are your number one marketing tool to put your best face forward for exposure. It is important to find a photographer that focuses primarily on acting and modeling headshots as there are certain looks casting directors except. A great Texas headshot photographer is Shea Anne Studios. Shea was a model for Ford Models for many years before switching to behind the camera.

Agency

Once you have your headshots and began your acting lessons, you can began seeking representation. Having an agent allows for them to submit you for projects to casting directors. Usually agencies will have open calls to come in with your headshot resume. They will typically give you slides to try with a reader since you are still a beginner and don’t have enough footage for a reel. Make sure to come in dressed like your headshot or similar, you want them to see what you would be like walking in an audition. Be comfortable and go with the flow and be open to new ideas. Try not come in with a fixed idea or outcome, be flexible. That is how majority of auditions will be.  Yes be professional and have questions but also remain true to yourself. You want an agent that knows you and will advocate for who you are and the roles you want.

Self Submission

Whilst seeking representation, you can get started on those auditions through self submission. There are many sites that allow you to submit for different projects in your area. The main ones for Texas is Casting Networks and Actors Access. These are great sites to began your journey as a new actor. Try submitting for roles you could see yourself in. A great way to figure out your cast type is finding actors who are similar to you (either look or vibe) and research their work. Try to become familiar with recent shows and commercials. Think about how you would try to do the role. I know you probably won’t hear this in any other profession but go watch more television. It is important to watch shows outside of your basic go-to or niche genre. You will began to understand the differentiating tone some shows expect. For example, The CW Network one hour drama vs a HBO one hour drama or learning differences of single cam vs multi-cam comedy. This will help you know how to dress for your audition and the tone of the show. So for example, the CW uses lots of greens and dark colors in their wardrobe. The acting is very intense and mysterious. While on the other hand, A CBS multi-cam comedy is going to have pastel sets and wardrobe with high energy fast paced acting. These are all things new actors will slowly began to realize and understand where they fit in that puzzle or what they can bring to their roles.

Have Fun!

The most important part of this career is to have fun! We cannot take ourselves too seriously as actors. It is our job to explore and understand human connection. It is so easily to get lost and try to mold yourself to what you can see on TV, but these are only tools of inspiration. Your creativity and art is what matters. Remind yourself that we are on a floating rock every time you enter that audition room. My favorite thing is to always have something fun planned after my audition. It keeps me grounded and reminds me that this isn’t the only thing. That I am doing this to experience life. You will find yourself less drained and also beating yourself down. This industry is full of rejection so don’t reject yourself. Let yourself fail in those auditions, let yourself explore scary characters, and remind yourself of your worth.

All About Lip Fillers

Lip fillers have always been controversial, but it has been increasing in popularity since Kylie Jenner debuted her new lips in 2015. Many opposers argue that fillers produce an unnatural appearance; however, the right professional can create the illusion of having naturally full and defined lips.

What Are Lip Fillers?

Fillers are injections that add volume to your natural lips. They are a type of dermal filler that consists of hyaluronic acid. There are several brands of filler, such as Restylane or Volbella. I use Juvederm Ultra, which is a thinner substance than other Juvederm products. It is designed for deeper filling and to create more definition. This quick procedure only takes about 5-10 minutes and gives you 9-12 months of plump lips; depending on your age and metabolism, they might fade sooner or last longer.  One syringe can also cost anywhere between $500-$1000.

Before the Appointment

Prior to getting your lip fillers, you’ll have to meet with the healthcare provider doing your fillers to assess what type of filler you need, the amount, and the shape you are trying to achieve. They will ask you about any allergies and collect your medical history. Some providers will ask for a reference photo, so make sure to come to your appointment with a reference photo in mind. If your provider doesn’t want a reference photo, then be prepared to thoroughly describe what you want your lips to look like. Your healthcare provider will also take photos of your face and lips to compare before and after the injections. Afterward, they will examine your face and lips and give their expert opinion on the appearance to go for. This consultation appointment takes about 30 minutes. Some specialists that can perform lip injections are plastic surgeons, dermatologists, or cosmetic facial surgeons.

During the Appointment

During the lip filler procedure, your provider will start by applying a topical numbing cream to your lips. This numbing cream consists of lidocaine, benzocaine, and tetracaine. Some providers even offer a nerve blocker injection, which is a local anesthetic that targets the nerves to lessen pain. It should take about 15-30 minutes for your lips to become completely numb.

Once the numbing cream and/or injection has set in, your specialist will begin the injections. Using a tiny needle, your provider will begin injecting the corners of your lip, along the edges of your lip, the cupid’s bow, and the center of your lip. It is standard to use 1 milliliter of filler, but some people will use 2 milliliters. It is recommended not to get more than that in one sitting. With the numbing cream, you won’t feel much pain but a pinching sensation, or it may be uncomfortable pressure. The entire procedure can take as little as 30 minutes or as long as an hour.

After The Procedure

After the procedure is done, your healthcare provider will massage the fillers into your lips to absorb it. They will also give you an ice pack to assist with the swelling and bruising that is accompanied following the procedure. Swelling and bruising will usually go away after 24 to 48 hours; however, it may last up to a week. For an hour after the procedure, you should not drink anything hot because you will not feel if you have burned your lips due to the numbing cream. For 24 hours after the injections, do not suck through a straw or pucker your lips as it can cause the filler to move. Lastly, avoid putting on lip products for at least a day. A follow-up appointment is typically made 2 weeks following your procedure to massage your lips again and ensure the filler is settling nicely.

This is a photo showing the before and after comparison of my lip fillers the first time I ever got them.

Advantages of Fillers

Lip fillers are safe to inject, and the fillers are also natural to us as we produce hyaluronic acid in our bodies. Having plumper, more defined lips can also give you a boost in confidence and self-esteem. Although lip fillers are not necessary and all-natural lips are beautiful, it can be fun to change your appearance a little. On another note, if you aren’t happy with your fillers, then you can have them reversed by injecting hyaluronidase to dissolve the filler. They are a great temporary way to add volume to your lips.

Disadvantages of Fillers

As with any other procedure, lip fillers have potential risks and complications that can occur. One risk is an infection at the injection sites. Some people may also experience asymmetry, which can occur if your provider does not inject the filler equally throughout your lips. Migration of the filler towards your nose can also occur, and sometimes the tissue may die if the filler is injected too far into your lip. It is always recommended to do your research on healthcare providers and find a reputable one before getting your fillers done.

Lucid Dreaming

When I go to sleep, I have always had the weirdest dreams. During an average sleep week I have, I usually have dreams three to four times. I thought to myself what if I could control these dreams? It has occurred to me that if I could start to lucid dream. Lucid dreaming is when you can control a dream like it is reality. When most people dream, they are not in control of what they are dreaming about. I got into lucid dreaming when I would tell my friends about what I would dream about. People I would tell my dream about would always say that I have the coolest dreams. I would have crazy dreams that I didn’t even know I could think about.

When it comes to lucid dreaming, I have never perfected it. I practice control of my dream reality. There are some things I have done to help control what is happening in my dreams. When I first started to try and dream lucidly, I would write down every dream I would have. I would try and recite the dreams in great detail to myself and on paper. I have a journal just for the dreams I have had. Some of these dreams are thrilling, calming, adventurous, and even scary. I will go through what it takes to lucid dream as I do. I still haven’t mastered it, but I am starting to gain more and more control when I dream.

To start I need to go way back to when I was a kid. I would have dreams so many times a week, maybe even twice a night. I dreamed of the most random things, but some things that I would dream of wouldn’t be random. Things that I thought about, have also been in my dreams. The first dream I can remember having was an adventurous dream. I don’t remember the specifics, I just remember going somewhere. Right when I would get to where I needed to be in the dream, I would wake up.

When it comes to controlling my dreams, I only have been trying to do it for the past year or so. I have been in dreams where I would wake up and I would want to go back into those same dreams when I go back to sleep. I knew that it wouldn’t be easy to start having control over dreams. I still can’t even control my dreams most of the time. But, now and then I will be able to control having a lucid dream.

How To Dream Lucidly

I do not dream lucidly most of the time I go to sleep. But, if you want to try and practice lucid dreaming here are a few tips that have helped me:

    • Keep a dream journal: Writing down what you dreamed about every time you wake up will help you try and have the dream you want. Don’t just write down dreams you like, write down every dream you have.
    • Read your journal: Every time you go to sleep read the dream two to three times you want to have and control. This will help you be in the state of mind of the dream you want to have. You will more likely to dream about it if it is already in your head.
    • Check reality: Before you think it is a dream, make sure. Some dreams I have had have felt so real. It happens to everyone, so try and change something in your dream reality.

Now that you have the steps, you are not going to immediately be able to dream lucidly. Keep practicing and I bet you will start to see results because I have. Below is a description of my last lucid dream.

My Last Lucid Dream

The last time that I controlled a dream, it was a cool experience I had. In the dream I had, I was in a mountain range at the top of the highest mountain. I remember it being absolutely beautiful. In the dream, I slowly started to figure out that this was a dream. I had to do a reality check. I held my hand in front of me and I started to move it in a side-to-side motion. But, I still didn’t think I was in a dream. So, I started to think about my surroundings. In the dream, I looked at another mountain to my left. I thought of color and I closed my eyes. The color I thought of in the dream was blue. I opened my eyes and the mountain I was looking at started to change to blue.

When I realized that I could do things that I could never do in reality, I knew I was in a dream. So, standing on the mountain top I looked down. I remember seeing a pool of water at the very bottom. I jumped off the mountain to get to the pool of water. When I jumped, I started to feel powerless about the dream, and before I hit the ground next to the pool. I woke up.

Cheesecake factory

Sometimes you just want to dine somewhere with endless options, most of which don’t seem to go together, but are tasty, nonetheless. No, we’re not talking about dinners. We’re talking about The Cheesecake Factory. You know, the place known for its delicious brown bread, its cheesecake, and that one Drake line. Long before Drizzy and suburban moms put The Cheesecake Factory on the map, it was a small basement operation.

It all started in Michigan in the early 1940s. Evelyn Overton, a home baker, stumbled upon a recipe for cheesecake in her local newspaper and decided to give it a shot. She nailed the recipe, and it became her signature. Overton’s friends and family loved her cheesecake so much she decided to open a small bakery outside of Detroit. The shop doesn’t last for long, but that didn’t stop Overton from slinging cheesecake from her basement, selling it to local eateries to help raise her two boys.

Overton’s kids were grown by 1972 and moved out of her house. Officially an empty nester, she and her husband packed up and moved to California. They decided to use their life savings to continue living out Overton’s dream: opening the Cheesecake Factory Bakery. Unlike the bakery in Michigan, the Cheesecake Factory Bakery was a success. The Overtons developed a dependable customer base in the Los Angeles area and things looked good.

Things were looking even better when Mrs. Overton’s curious and ambitious son, David Marshall Overton, started dreaming bigger. He wondered what would happen if they opened a whole restaurant based around his mom’s cheesecakes. A year later, they opened the first Cheesecake Factory restaurant in Beverly Hills. The eatery didn’t have the expansive menu we all know and love now, but it was pretty impressive. The Cheesecake Factory sells sandwiches, salads, and cheesecakes. Duh.

By the early ‘80s, David was an accomplished cook and businessman, so he set his sights even bigger. The Cheesecake Factory opened more locations across Southern California with expanded menus. Like, seriously expanded. During their initial growth stage, David kept an eye on all the hot restaurants in his area. Whatever he saw people flocking to, he added it to The Cheesecake Factory’s menu. It was an interesting strategy for sure, but it seemed to work.

“… I didn’t want another restaurant to open down the block and take my business away. We just kept putting things on the menu that people seemed to like. Finally, I thought, ‘Well, there’s nothing that America wants that we shouldn’t be able to put on the menu.’ So, we just kept at it,” David said at the time.

The Cheesecake Factory’s success didn’t slow at all when the ‘90s arrived. The menu kept growing, people kept coming, and The Cheesecake Factory started opening restaurants on the East Coast. By 1992, the restaurant went public and got a new look. For whatever reason the folks behind the scenes decided to go with an Egyptian theme, which has stuck to this day. Throughout the ‘90s, the restaurant grew in popularity among wine moms and people like Drake. More and more outposts opened across the country and the menu somehow got even bigger.

In the mid-2000s, The Cheesecake Factory had earned a massive following.  In 2011, the chain expanded internationally. It opened its first international location in Dubai, casually located at the bottom of an indoor ski slope. Around the same time, Overton decided the menu had gotten big enough. He capped it at a whopping 250 items, but The Cheesecake Factory continued to swap 10-15 items out for new items each year, which is a stellar workaround.

Currently, The Cheesecake Factory is one of the most successful chain eateries in the world.

celebration cheesecake

Vanilla cake layered with cheesecake, strawberry, chocolate, vanilla mousse, and cream cheese frosting. The beast that is the Celebration Cheesecake seems to be their take on a birthday cake, yet it definitely feels like they’re celebrating themselves as a place that doesn’t care at all about what a cheesecake is supposed to be. It’s almost got that Funfetti feel, with all the bright birthday-ish colors. It’s tasty as hell, but the real problem is that you get tricked into thinking you’re about to take a bite of an ice cream cake, but alas, no ice cream. Just a comically tall slice of cheesecake.

oreo dream cheesecake

30th anniversary cheesecake

Original Cheesecake layered with fudge cake and chocolate truffle cream.
There’s not enough cheesecake here to even call this cheesecake, but this somehow counterbalances my whole “too much cake” argument and flips it on its ear. Now it’s almost like the cheesecake is the part that’s been added, and it somehow works better. Also, the truffle cream is glorious which gives it more of an authentic look.

Black American Culture

Culture is the customs, arts, social institutions,  and achievements of a particular nation, people, or social group. Since being brought here many years ago black people in America have been through many trials and tribulations. Having to move to a country that is foreign to you and live in a completely different way was definitely a culture shock to my ancestors. Although we had to learn a new way of life in America we still found a way to create our own culture here. From music to fashion, and food black Americans have plenty of cultures.

Music

This contains an image of:

It’s no doubt that black people are pioneers in the music industry. Jazz, Rock, Funk, R&B, Hip-Hop, and many more genres were created by black people. Some of the greatest artists in the world are black Americans. Michael Jackson is arguably the most famous musician of all time and he was not only loved by black people but all races. Music is a form of expression and we listen to or make it when we go through various emotions. We always leave our souls on the track. Furthermore, we have influenced many to make great music like us.

Fashion

This contains an image of: Black Culture is Not a Fashion Trend Earrings - Default Title

Now our fashion is my favorite thing about us. We are the blueprint when it comes to things like streetwear and sneakers. We influence all people all over the world with the way we dress. It started back around the 80s with rappers wearing jogging suits, gold chains, and sneakers. In recent years people who are not black have been getting into streetwear and sneakers, which is not a problem. But it is ironic because a few years ago black people were called ghetto for dressing the way that everyone loves to dress now. Thanks to TikTok I have noticed a shift in the way a lot of people dress. Again, nothing wrong with trying new styles and participating in trends just as long as you acknowledge who influenced you. Due to people getting more into sneakers like Jordans, people have not been able to buy them because they sell out in seconds. Years ago it used to be a tradition to go to the mall on a Saturday to wait in line for the newest pair of Retro Jordans, but that phase is now long gone. I like that black culture is admired by some people, but I wish we could get more recognition for the things we started.

Language

Black people have their own lingo or slang called AAVE which stands for African American Vernacular English or also known as Ebonics. Examples of AAVE include chile, wanna, finna, and period. It’s very interesting because all black people in various states all have their own lingo but we also all speak AAVE. I just think it’s really cool. There has been a lot of controversy surrounding AAVE on social media because people who are not black have been caught faking their lingo or slang to sound like us. That is disrespectful because it is a form of mockery. If you did not sound like that your whole life, it’s not okay to get online and decide you want to cosplay a black man or woman for the day. Considering the fact that black people are seen as ‘ghetto’ for doing the very same things that some nonblack people do.

Food

I love the food my people make. It’s so different across various states in America but they are all special in their own way.  Like black people in Texas make some great bbq and soul food. And black people in Louisiana make the best seafood and gumbo. We always have food at every celebration or gathering. I think of it as a way of showing love.

Celebrations

Black people love to through a cookout for any and every occasion. If someone is having a baby there’s going to be a cookout, if someone is graduating, there’s going to be a cookout. It’s a way family and friends gather and just spend quality time together. There’s food, music, games, and just a lot of love and fun to go around. When you gather with your loved ones at a cookout you forget all of your troubles and just live in the moment. Cookouts are a staple in the black community, a tradition that has been passed down for many, many years.

Black people were brought to a country they weren’t born in, forced to work for free, and then hated for the color of their skin. To still prevail and overcome those challenges is so powerful. Not only have we made a name for ourselves all over the world, but we are taking over, and rightfully so! My ancestors suffered over 400 years of trauma it’s about time the world sees us for who we are and not by how we look.  Black Americans are the blueprint, we have influenced so many across all nations and it is flattering, but I just hope they remember where it all started. It took us so long to get some respect in this world and we are still fighting for it to this day.

Rock and Stone!! A Look at Deep Rock Galactic

Deep Rock Galactic hits Steam, Xbox One Early Access | DDO Players

“Congratulations, [NEW DWARVEN EMPLOYEE]! By signing up with DEEP ROCK GALACTIC, you have just taken your first step towards becoming an essential gear in the machine of the MOST TENACIOUS space mining corporation in the known galaxy!”

There are a lot of co-op games out there. More than any single person or group of persons could ever hope to play. And so because of this games need to distinguish themselves to draw in players. It’s an endless struggle between studios to release content that can attract an avid player base and keep it for an extended period of time. And with that kind of battleground, having a unique and intriguing idea can make all the difference between success and failure.

Deep Rock Galactic is one such success. I recently stumbled across the game as a result of a friends recommendation, and I fell in love almost immediately. Deep Rock Galactic is a procedurally generated first person co-op shooter for up to 4 players. In Deep Rock Galactic it, you play as dwarven space miners working for the mining company Deep Rock Galactic, sent on missions to gather ores and precious materials from deep below the surface of the planed Hoxas IV. However, things are never so easy, as the planet is home to a variety of subterranean flora and fauna, and many of them pose a great threat to those who step foot beneath the surface. It’s up to the players to both accomplish their objectives given my the companies management, and staving off the swarms of alien hordes. This is both engaging and difficult, but equally enjoyable

Deep Rock Galactic Review - A Dwarf Is Always a Dwarf, Even in Space

The game stands out in not only gameplay, but also in terms of style and atmosphere. For lack of a better term, the game looks a bit chunky. But this is no insult, and is deliberate and only in the art style (graphically, the game looks great). The games art style utilizes a lot of large, bulky shapes in the design of a lot of aspects, which perfectly mimics and accentuates the people you play as: Dwarves, the stout and sturdy folk who are seen through ought fantasy and the occasional sci-fi. As for atmosphere, the game balances the serious with the whimsical. Before missions the game can take on a light hearted tone, with players getting to explore and mess around in the orbital space station that they call home, doing such enjoyable activities as heavy drinking, dancing to jukebox tunes, throwing barrels into important station machinery, turning off the gravity, and so on. But once a mission starts and players move down to the surface, its all business. The atmosphere shifts to a silent, almost eerie feeling, as players navigate in the near pitch darkness of underground caverns with only dim headlights and short lived flares to light their way. Only when swarms of enemies descend upon the players does this tone shift, in this case becoming tense and action packed, assisted by the absolutely killer musical score, featuring heavy synth and fantastic beats. The music elevates combat to the next level, and really makes you feel like giving your all in each encounter.

To get into to the nitty gritty of the game, a good place to start is how to play the game. As previously stated, this is a co-op game, and to help distinguish players within the game missions there are a few different classes to choose from, four to be exact. The classes are Scout, Gunner, Driller and Engineer. These classes all behave slightly differently and each serves a different role, but  when combined form a solidly coordinated team. The Gunner is the simplest to explain; it is designed to mow through hordes of enemies with ease, taking the heat off of others players as they finish the mission. The Driller is the best choice for getting through solid rock and clearing obstacles, as they come equipped with twin titanium power drills that make short work of anything within range. The Scout is the most mobile of the classes, and works best be utilizing their grappling hook to zip through the cave systems and reach high up areas, directing team mates to objectives. Last but certainly not least there is the Engineer, who serves as the support unit of the team. They have access to deadly sentry guns that can be placed in advantageous positions, allowing for better defensive capabilities when staving off hordes of aliens.

Deep Rock Galactic Review: Rock Solid! (PC) - KeenGamer

Deep Rock Galactic is a very special game. It manages to carve out its own niche within the co-op scene, and has received raging reviews ever since it was released in 2020. The game also sees continual updates from the development team, adding more content to the game with each update. The most recent update has added rival factions to the system, giving players dangerous competition in the deep deep dark. It’s an exiting ride from start to  finish, I can guarantee I’ll be sticking around until the end. As the dwarves are always happy to shout: Rock and Stone!

“DEEP ROCK GALACTIC will succeed. DEEP ROCK GALACTIC is not in the business of failing. MANAGEMENT BIDS YOU WELCOME, NEW MINER. WELCOME ABOARD.”
